Daniel Ridgway Knight (1839-1924) was an American artist born at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was a pupil at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Paris, under Gleyre, and late worked in the personal studio of Meissonier. Fallowing 1872 he sleep in France, having the home & studio at Poissy on the Seine.

He painted peasant women out of doors by having wonderful popular profits. He was awarded a silver & Cross of the Legion of Honor, Exposition Universelle, Paris, 1889, and was mass produced a Knight of the Royal Order of St. Michael of Bavaria, Munich, 1893, and receiving the gold medal of honor from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Philadelphia, 1893. His boy, Ashton Knight, is also referred to as the landscape painter.
